Happy Reading...!
Naina stood frozen, her breath caught somewhere between disbelief and defiance. Veer Malhotra’s dark, unreadable eyes held her in place, his presence alone enough to shift the very air around them. The tension from their first meeting still crackled in the space between them.
A soft beep from the monitor inside the room pulled Naina back to reality. With a slow inhale, she straightened her spine and stepped past Veer, her white coat brushing against his tailored suit. He didn’t move out of the way, but his gaze remained locked on her, assessing, calculating.
She swallowed down her nerves and entered the room, where Mrs. Malhotra lay, her frail form bathed in the artificial glow of the machines keeping her stable. Despite the exhaustion lining her face, there was a warmth in her expression when she saw Naina.
Mrs. Malhotra’s tired eyes studied Naina for a moment before offering a weak smile. “You must be the new doctor. It’s good to have a fresh face around here.”
Naina returned the smile, her professional demeanor intact. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Malhotra. How are you feeling?”
Before Mrs. Malhotra could respond, the sound of footsteps echoed behind her.
It was Veer... He came near to the bed on the opposite side where Naina was standing and placed a hand over his mother’s. His touch was gentle, a stark contrast to the harsh, commanding aura he exuded outside this room. His mother turned to him and smiled gently.
Veer smiled at her in return and turned to Naina.
“She’ll be fine, right?” His voice was firm, but there was an edge to it, something dangerously close to vulnerability.
Naina who was looking at the charts and reports lifted her gaze to his. “We’re doing everything we can. Her condition is stable, but she needs proper care and rest.”
Veer’s jaw tightened. “Then she’ll have it.”
Mrs. Malhotra let out a weak chuckle, squeezing her son’s hand. “Veer, dear, stop intimidating the doctor. She’s only trying to help.”
Naina was surprised to see a flicker of something unfamiliar in his expression—was it guilt? It vanished just as quickly as it appeared, replaced by his usual cold intensity.
“I want the best for her,” he said, his gaze shifting back to Naina. “And if you’re the one treating her, I expect nothing less than perfection.”
The weight of his words settled heavily on her shoulders. There was no room for error when it came to a man like Veer Malhotra. He wasn’t just another overprotective son—he was a man used to control, to power, to having things exactly as he wanted them.
Naina met his stare head-on. “I don’t need expectations to do my job. I’ll take care of her because that’s what I do.”
For a moment, silence stretched between them, a silent battle of wills. Then, to her utter surprise, the corner of Veer’s lips lifted—just a fraction, just enough to hint at something unreadable.
“We’ll see,” he murmured before turning back to his mother.
Naina exhaled quietly, focusing on Mrs. Malhotra, who watched the entire exchange with an amused glint in her tired eyes. She knew she had just stepped into a world far more complicated than she’d imagined. And somehow, she had the distinct feeling that Veer Malhotra wasn’t just going to be her patient’s son—he was going to be a storm she’d have to weather.

Veer’s POV
The city lights flickered beyond the glass walls of my penthouse, but I wasn’t paying attention to the skyline. My mind, uncharacteristically, was occupied by something—or rather, someone—else.
Dr. Naina Sharma.
She wasn’t the first doctor I had met, nor was she the most experienced. But there was something about the way she held her ground against me, the way her sharp gaze didn’t waver when I demanded perfection. I am used to people bending to my will, intimidated by my presence. But she… she had looked me in the eye and challenged me without a second thought.
A slow smirk tugged at his lips as he swirled the whiskey in his glass. Foolish? Or fearless?
His fingers tightened around the glass. He didn’t like unpredictability. And Naina Sharma was just that—a variable he hadn’t accounted for.
I would be watching you closely Dr. Naina.
Very closely.
Naina’s POV
I sat by the window of my room, the dim glow of mine bedside lamp casting soft shadows across the room.
I had dealt with difficult families before, but Veer Malhotra was something else entirely.
She exhaled, rubbing her temples. His presence was suffocating, his gaze piercing, like he could see through every layer she had built around herself.
But the thing that unsettled me the most wasn’t his authority or his expectations—it was the glimpse of something else in his eyes. Something raw. Something broken.
And for some inexplicable reason, it made her chest tighten.
She shook her head. No. She wasn’t here to figure him out. She was here to do her job, to take care of his mother.
Still, as she climbed into bed, the last thing she saw before sleep claimed her was the way Veer had looked at her.
Like she was a puzzle he intended to solve.
